Revisited: Workshops the Wired Way

Revisited: Workshops the Wired Way

Group of people on computer screen

"Ahead of the Curve" doesn't begin to describe this April 2001 article about virtual training, and Engage is delighted to revisit this prescient feature by our founder, Susan J. Ellis. In "Workshops the Wired Way," Ellis describes how to develop and deliver virtual training (known then as online, Web-based or e-learning) for the volunteer sector. Ellis outlines how to develop content, describes what it takes to be a successful facilitator, encourages the acceptance of virtual "lurkers" and details the advantages of virtual training – nearly 25 years ago. Enjoy.

Hi Sam (and anyone else)!

I co-authored the "Care Circles" series in the Engage Journal and have 30 years experience in VMS design and deployment. I am also the co-founder of Samaritan.com and AL!VE.

I'm really looking forward to this article! Regardless, I've been thinking it would be fun to chat with anyone, anytime re: future of VMS's. My info is below if anyone wants to reach out.

Regards,

Thanks so much for your comments, Todd. The highly-anticipated Ahead of the Curve article by Sam Fankuchen that you're referring to, originally scheduled for this issue, will now be a two-part feature, with Part 1 rescheduled to post in the July-August-September issue of Engage.

Thanks for the update Margaret (for everyone). Sam was gracious enough to reach out to me himself a few weeks back, so I knew about the delay and the reasons for it. The "Care Circles" series that Dana Litwin and I did was also about the future of VMS's so it's a topic I can't wait to see more written on. Sam is prescient!
