Kim Roots is Executive Director of Side By Side Advocacy, an innovative not-for-profit organization in West Ryde, New South Wales that promotes and upholds the rights, needs and interests of people with intellectual disability. After a long and established career in law and social advocacy, Roots entered the Volunteer Engagement field for the first time in 2018 as a Coordinator of Volunteers. As a newcomer to the field, Roots was able to view her new role through the eyes of her previous experiences; in particular, she noted that there were ways that volunteer leaders, organisations and volunteers themselves could better advocate for the important work they all undertake.
