Revisit: Should Volunteer Administration Be a Profession?
In honor of the start of our 25th year at Engage (formerly e-Volunteerism), authors Rob Jackson and Erin R. Spink revisit the first ever Points of View from our journal's founding co-editors, Susan J. Ellis and Steve McCurley. Never known to mince words or shy away from a spicy exchange, Ellis and McCurley are at their best debating the important topic, “Should Volunteer Administration Be a Profession?”
Happily, this very first Points of View links well with Rob and Erin’s last column that explored the nature of Volunteer Engagement as a profession. This resonance makes it a natural choice for our new issue, and reminds us that some debates never go away (this is from 24 years ago, after all!). More importantly, we are also reminded that professionals can and should agree to disagree, as different points of view often lead to important changes and advancements in the Volunteer Engagement field.
