Everyone in the volunteer world is intellectually in favor of involving people with disabilities as volunteers, but somehow – in practice – this is not happening as often as it could. Recently a few booklets have been published giving guidance on this subject, but there are still questions to ask and answer. Expert panelists from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States discuss such practical issues as: Other than political correctness and the benefits to the disabled volunteers themselves, what are the benefits of integrating volunteers with disabilities for the program, other volunteers and staff, or the clients? Are there any client groups with which people with disabilities are particularly successful? What are obstacles in recruitment? What works? …and several more provocative subjects.
