Working as the Voluntary Services Development Manager at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne, Rhiannon Wheeler leads the volunteer strategy and engages volunteers in all kinds of ways to help provide support to people with life limiting illnesses towards the end of their lives. At St Wilfrid’s, Wheeler has introduced a clinical volunteer programme for local young people interested in a career in healthcare, developed a large-scale community volunteering project and set up structures to enable volunteers to provide direct support to patients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous to this, Wheeler worked in youth volunteering, teaching and training. When she’s not leading volunteers or volunteering herself, she’s usually out walking her whippet Indi or attempting to grow giant dahlias.
