In her role as Volunteering and Community Involvement Director at the National Trust, Helen Timbrell oversees support for 70,000 volunteers working in over 250 different roles and gifting time with a value equivalent to £33m. Current priorities include the implementation of organisation-wide system and process improvements and the development of a comprehensive capability programme to support managers of volunteers, most of which are non-specialists.
Timbrell has worked in volunteering for over 15 years, including her work with Citizens Advice, RSPCA, and the University of Warwick. She is currently on the Board of the Association of Volunteer Managers.
Timbrell is a Chartered Member of the CIPD. She completed her MBA in 2010 and has a PhD based on research into geographical variations in volunteering.
