Sharleen Tarnate-Nguyen, MAT, CVA, is the Volunteer Engagement Manager for the San Diego Humane Society. She oversees volunteer event management, recognition, engagement strategy, external and episodic service, and new program development for their volunteer base of over 4,000 individuals. During her time at SDHS, she also co-founded SDHS’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Additionally, she currently volunteers for Nonprofit Solutions as a facilitator for topics such as Volunteer Essentials and Inclusion & Equity.
Prior to working in animal welfare, Tarnate-Nguyen built her career in the arts and culture sector, working and volunteering in institutions like the San Diego Museum of Us, The Huntington Library, The Getty Villa, Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. She previously served on the boards of San Diego’s Cultural Volunteer Managers Council and the San Diego Emerging Museum Professionals. Like many others, she is now juggling a robust professional career and motherhood of two young toddlers. Plus a pup, of course.
