Carlton Meyn is the Operations Manager at Volunteering Queensland (VQ) www.volqld.org.au, where he manages a team of 11 paid staff and over 100 volunteers. Meyn joined VQ in 1996 and has been responsible for developing VQ’s IT infrastructure, growing it from an organisati with five IT terminals to one with 39 terminals and five servers that now supports nine Regional Volunteer Resource Centres via remote access from Cairns to the Gold Coast.
Meyn has been involved in the development and delivery of many innovative programs and major events for VQ, including: VQ’s award-winning Web site in 2000; VQ’s referral service linking over 10,000 potential volunteers to VQ’s 550 member organisations each year; the development of Regional Volunteer Resource Centres across Queensland, including the training of its staff and volunteers; VQ’s involvement and participation in all Queensland events for the International Year of Volunteers (IYV) 2001 and Centenary of Federation 2001; the recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers for CHOGM 2001 and 2002 in partnership with the Prime Minister’s Task Force; the recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers for the Asia Pacific Cities Summit 1999 and 2003 in collaboration with the Lord Mayors Office; the recruitment and coordination of volunteers for the Australia Day parade 2001, 2002 and 2003 in partnership with the Queensland Government Department of Premier & Cabinet; managing VQ’s involvement in the volunteer recruitment for Goodwill Games 2001; managing VQ’s involvement in innovative projects like Homeless Connect; and leading VQ’s involvement in the Volunteer Cricket Day - a major recognition event that recognises the value of volunteers. Over 75,000 volunteers have been a part of this recognition event since 2001 (the International Year of Volunteers).
Meyn has also presented workshops and papers at national and international conferences on event management and IT use for community organisations.
