Fumiko Mega is a college lecturer on volunteerism and social work within the community. For the last five years, she has also taught volunteer managers of volunteer centers and social welfare facilities to design and implement their own workshops. She often speaks professionally. Her topics include 1) the role and function of volunteer centers and 2) an introduction to volunteer management at municipal governments and local councils of social welfare. In addition to her teaching and training activities, Ms Mega is also an author. She has written Japanese books on volunteer management and she regularly pens a column on volunteering for a local newspaper. Ms. Mega is one of the core members of the preparatory committee for Japan Volunteer Coordinators Association(JVCA). In addition, she has worked for four years as a volunteer coordinator at the Osaka Voluntary Action Center. Recently, Ms. Mega had the opportunity to spend several months in the United States. Upon receiving a Japan Foundation Grant, she studied volunteer management at the Points of Light Foundation in Washington, from March through July 2000.
