Christer Leopold is Senior Officer, Local Capacity Building and Volunteering, at the Secretariat in Geneva of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. In that position, it is his responsibility to inspire development, put support systems into place and start the process of introducing modern volunteer management. This work is made more complicated by the fact that volunteering is different in every region and every country of the world.
During the nineties he worked for ten years in the Swedish Red Cross, first as National Communications Manager and then as Manager for Community Service, including development of volunteering and local branches. For three years, he was also the President of The National Forum for Voluntary Social Work, an umbrella for nonprofits in Sweden.
In the seventies and eighties, Christer served as the Executive President for eight years for a small nationwide voluntary organisation in Sweden and for six years as an independent International Marketing Consultant.
