Peter Heyworth is the Executive Officer of a Volunteer Resource Centre based in northern Adelaide, South Australia. He holds a Masters from Carnegie Mellon University Adelaide and a Diploma of Volunteer Management.
Heyworth started life as a Geologist before moving onto a number of other roles, including time spent as a high school science teacher, a Baptist pastor, a State Volunteer Coordinator for a disability service, and a local community house coordinator. He was also an actor for a short time in Hong Kong, and has also successfully established a community services program within a faith based environ.
Heyworth has maintained a strong interest in volunteerism and volunteer program management for many years and was part of the board that set up the SA Association for Volunteer Administrators and became the first president of AAVA, which is now the Australasian Association of Manager of Volunteers (AAMoV)
He has a keen interest in accredited training for volunteers and volunteer program managers, and he has been part of various course advisory panels for volunteer-related qualifications over the last 10 years at both state and national levels.
In January 2014, Heyworth led Northern Volunteering to become established as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), providing certificated training from Certificate I level to Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management., each with a specialisation in volunteerism. As of April 2014, his agency is the only regional Australian VRC nationally with an RTO.
