Dr. Ken Culp, III is Principal Extension Specialist for Volunteerism in the Department of 4-H Youth Development and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Family Sciences at the University of Kentucky. He supports 146 4-H Agents serving in the role of volunteer administrators, who in turn involve 19,815 adult and 4,489 youth volunteers.
A native of Rensselaer, IN, Culp was born and raised on a large livestock and grain farm. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Animal Sciences and his Ph.D. in Educational Foundations and Administration, all from Purdue University.
Culp has 27 years of experience in volunteer administration, volunteer development and leadership development. He is a consultant, educator and keynote speaker and has presented more than 400 workshops and seminars since 1996 in 40 states, Canada, Japan and South Korea and has published 41 articles in professional journals.
He developed and teaches a series of graduate course in volunteer administration and was the principal investigator in a national, longitudinal study that created the Volunteer Research, Knowledge & Competency Taxonomy.
Culp served four years on the Kentucky Commission of Community Volunteerism and Service and four years on the Ohio Governor’s Community Service & Volunteerism Council. He and his wife Nancy have three daughters and two grandchildren.
