Kwabena Asante-Ntiamoah

Kwabena Asante-Ntiamoah is from Ghana, West Africa and working with the United Nations Volunteer Programme http://www.unvolunteers.org at its Bonn-based Headquarters in Germany. Kwabena re-joined the UN Volunteers Programme in Bonn in July 2001 as a Promotion of Volunteerism Specialist. Prior to that he worked with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a Civil Affairs Officer.

Kwabena first joined UNV as a volunteer in Afghanistan, where he was a Field Officer with UNOCHA (UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Assistance to Afghanistan) in the South Eastern Region, based in Gardez. He went on to work as the UNV Programme Officer in Kyrgyzstan C.I.S. where he administered the UNV Programme.

The main responsibilities of Kwabena's current job with the UN Volunteers Programme are the following:

  • Networking and partnership building with specialist institutions and individuals of strategic importance to the UNV programme.
  • Advocating the use of volunteers in fora and with potential partners.
  • Programme Development through exploring opportunities for expansion of ongoing operations/partnerships and experimentation of new volunteer roles/contributions.
  • Prepare induction notes for promotion of volunteerism projects and provide briefing to new UNV project volunteers staff, as well as providing substantive technical backstopping of projects with a component on volunteerism. The documentation of lessons learned and organising discussions around the concept of volunteerism.
